Ok, so I was hoping the title would catch some people's attention. I wanted to contribute a bit more to the forum, so I decided to write an article on my favorite archetype, the X-Sabers!

X-Sabers

Popular Monsters

X-Saber Ragigura – Ragigura is the Geico Gecko on steroids. He is the key to make the Infinite Loop work. When he’s summoned, return an X-Saber Monster from your graveyard to your hand. Also, he’s 1 star, so combined with Rose, Warrior of Revenge and a four star X-Saber, like Galahad, or a Summoner Monk (which you can use to get out Rose), equals a Gottoms. His downfall is his attack, which is only 100.

XX-Saber Fulhelmknight – This chick’s a hottie, with a couple useful moves. Once, she can negate an attack. Any attack on any monster. But, it’s only once, not once per turn. So, she has to leave the field and come back again before she can use her effect again. Next, if she destroys a defense position monster, revive a level 4 or lower X-Saber Monster. Combined with enemy controller and book of moon, this is very useful. However, she's got a weak attack of only 1300, so shrink's might be useful with her as well.

X-Saber Airbellum – One of my favorite X-Sabers. 1600 attack and when he attacks directly, discard a card from your opponent’s hand. Combined with Phoenix Wing Wind Blast or Compulsory, this is lethal. A note, it must be a DIRECT ATTACK, not just battle damage. You can’t attack over a monster and get his effect.

XX-Saber Gardestrike – Useful card for getting a full field up. You must have at least 2 X-Sabers in the graveyard and control no monsters to special summon this guy. Say you have 1 X-Saber on the field, a Fulhelmknight that negated the previous attack. You summon Airbellum and play torrential tribute, clearing your opponent’s field. You now have 2 X-Sabers in the graveyard to special summon Gardestrike with. 2100 attack for him makes me think he's the X-Saber version of Cyber Dragon.

XX-Saber Faultroll – The key to this deck. Sadly, he’s only useful with X-Saber decks, but he’s flippin’ amazing. You must control 2 X-Sabers to special summon this guy. Another part of the infinite loop. 2400 attack with the ability to revive a fallen X-Saber once per turn, plus combined with one of the 3 star x-saber tuners, he can get out Gottoms’.

X-Saber Urbellum – This X-Saber is one of the first, but not one of the greatest. A weak attack for 7 stars, if your opponent has 4 or more cards, you can return one to the top of their deck. If it works, it’ll only be the one time. Your opponent will make sure they set some spells or traps to lower there hand down to three next turn. But, combined with a 2 star tuner, such as krebons or plaguespreader, you can get out Gottoms, AND get another X-Saber in your graveyard for Gardestrike or Gottoms’ E-Call.

XX-Saber Gottoms – The behemoth of the X-Sabers. 3100 attack makes him one of the biggest synchro monsters available. I should note that he is the only synchro that you can get out with multiple synchro’s. His requirement is 1 tuner and 1 or more earth monsters, it doesn’t say anything about non-tuners. So, 3 Airbellums, 3 Fulhelmknights, or any combination can summon this guy. His effect is you can tribute 1 X-Saber to discard a card from your opponent’s hand at random. This is where I will explain the inifinite loop.

The Infinite Loop

Lets say you control 1 Gottoms’. You have a Ragigura in your hand, as well as 1 Faultroll, and a Faultroll in your graveyard. You can have both faultroll’s in your hand if you’d prefer. You summon Ragigura. If both Faultroll’s are in your hand, you don’t need to worry about his effect. Return some other X-Saber to your hand from your graveyard if you like, but if you can, return a faultroll. Then, special summon both Faultroll’s. Tribute 1 Ragigura and 1 Faultroll using Gottoms’ effect, discarding 2 cards from your opponent’s hand. Use the second Faultroll to revive Ragigura, who then returns Fautroll from your graveyard to your hand, which you can then special summon. Tribute ragigura and the faultroll that has already exhausted his revive ability for this turn, using Gottoms’ effect, to discard 2 more cards. Then, use Faultroll’s effect to bring back Ragigura, who then brings back Faultroll, rinse, repeat. Before long, your opponent has no hand left. Combined with Giant Trunade, this is especially useful. Also, a variation of this move involves using the continuous spell card Mass Driver instead of Gottoms’, so that instead of discarding cards, you deal 400 damage each time you tribute a monster. Do it 20 times and that’s game.

Useful Spells

Saber Slash – Destroy a number of face-up cards on the field equal to the number of face-up attack position X-Saber monsters you control. This includes field spell cards and continuous spells and traps. A word of caution, you MUST destroy an equal number. If you have 3 face up attack position X-Sabers and your opponent has 1 monster and 1 field spell card, you must destroy 3, meaning you have to destroy one of your own cards. Put one or two or however many into defense position to even it out if you must.

Heavy Storm – Clears out the backrow so you can comfortably synchro or activate your inifite loop if you’d like.

Lightning Vortex – Clears monsters so that Airbellum or Urbellum can gain the use of their effects.

Monster Reincarnation/Warrior Returning Alive – Allows you to get the most out of your XX-Saber Faultrolls, and feeds the graveyard with X-Sabers for Gardestrike or Gottoms’ E-Call.

Book of Moon – Useful with Fulhelmknight for her revival effect.

Enemy Controller – See Book of Moon.

Giant Trunade – Used in conjunction with the infinite loop, or to ensure no problems with synchro’ing or swarming.

Useful Traps

Gottoms’ Emergency Call – If you control 1 face-up X-Saber, revive 2 X-Sabers. This includes Gottoms. I’ve triple summoned Gottoms’ in 1 turn, but was wary of some face-downs, so I brought one out in defense position, and attacked with my other 2. I hit a mirror force, losing 2, but since one was in defense, he was unaffected. I activated Gottoms’ E-Call and got the other 2 back out.

Call of the Haunted – Useful for bringing back X-Sabers for Faultroll or Gottoms’ Effect. Reusing Tuners or Ragigura’s effect as well, etc, etc.

Phoenix Wing Wind Blast – Clearing a path for Airbellum or Urbellum.

Torrential Tribute – Used in conjunction with Gardestrike to clear a field.

Compulsory Evacuation Device – See Phoenix Wing Wind Blast.

That concludes my review. Any other ideas and suggestions, please feel free to comment. This is my favorite Archetype for Yugioh. There are other X-Saber specific cards, but I haven't gone into them yet. To be honest, I haven't done much with them yet, as they haven't really captured my interest. There are also many other useful cards to go along with X-Sabers, such as a Lightsaber variation in which you mill your cards with Lightsworn monsters or monsters like Card Trooper to fill your graveyard, but I wanted you guys to throw in your 2 cents as well. Currently, the deck I run for X-Sabers has searchers, such as Sangan (for either ragigura, rescue kitty, or giant rat), Giant Rat (for rescue kitty and then into 2 Airbellums), Deep Diver (for Faultroll), and 2 Gold Sarcophagous's for any part of the loop I'm missing, or even to search out a heavy storm or Giant Trunade. Any other tips or ideas would be appreciated. :) Enjoy!

When I first started playing them, everyone had to stop and read every card that came out. Apparently not many people work with X-Sabers. They do well enough at my tournaments though. :)

I just found it. Its brutal.
Its a counter trap
"Activate only while you control a face-up "X-Saber" monster. Negate the Summon of a monster and destroy it."

Thanks DeckMaster. X-Sabers are my favorite archetype. If Lloyd has his malicious dark arm simorgh hibbity-hoo-blah, and Thomas has his Batterymen, and Harrison with his fish, I got X-Sabers ;)

Wow, that trap sounds violent. I'll definately be throwing three of those into my deck. Is that coming out with Absolute Powerforce?
