Well, Everyone With the new March 2010, Banlist upon us. It's time for us to change perspective about what decks we will be running in this format. For me I still will be using the usual Blue Eyes decks but also doing a few variant decks, such as. A Lightsworn blue eyes, and a Demise Blue Eyes again. Restriction Cards Chaos Sorcerer Tragoedia Necro Gardna Necroface Mezuki Lightlord Summoner Luminas Burial Different Dimension Foolish Burial Reinforcements of Light Destiny Draw Allure of Darkness Mind Crush Magical Explosion Semi-Restriction Cards Honest Cyber Dragon Dandelion Treeborn Frog Demise, King of Armageddon Black Whirlwind United We Stand Royal Decree Royal Oppression Skill Drain No longer restricted Mask of Darkness Smashing Ground But for the huge tier player There are now many more options then there once was. Let us examine the fact that Treeborn frog. Treeborn Frog If this card is in your Graveyard during your Standby Phase and you control no Spell or Trap Cards, you can Special Summon it. This effect cannot be activated if you control a face-up "Treeborn Frog". So naturally running two of these in the deck increase's the chance for it being in your graveyard. And for Monarch decks that is a good thing, every turn having the chance to revive him and sacrifice him off for one of those great titans. From Zaborg, Caius, Thestalos, Granmarg, And Mobius, but lets not forget Kuraz...(And Raiza cough cough) If we did just a straight monster destruction, you could easily run Zaborg, with Caius, and maybe Mobius if you wanted too,. Pop in Chaos Sorcerer and you got a Chaos Monarch theme going,. But that is just for a simple idea, each person brings there own unique twist with theme's on a deck. And that is what help's keep this game interesting. The Return of Monarchs may only be for a short time although currently its unknown. But they are definitely going to be around enough to make a impact like the did the first time. Now let us Examine Lightsworns we all know they have been around for three banlist's at least, Judgment Dragon running at 2, with a decent amount of self mill power, with that and its draw power. They have pretty much made there presence in this game as one of the strongest deck theme's. Judgment Dragon This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except by having 4 or more "Lightsworn" monsters with different names in your Graveyard. You can pay 1000 Life Points to destroy all other cards on the field. During each of your End Phases, send the top 4 cards of your Deck to the Graveyard. And also with power house backing such as that, they are a pretty tough costumer but alas, not all decks this strong are without there weakness. With the coming of this Banlist, 2 more Deck titan's in a sense have been re-awaken. Such as the infamous Gadget's, that rivaled Monarchs when they first appeared. True they are weak but they hold amazing searching ability's, being able to grab a new one every time you summoned one. Green grabs Red, Yellow grabs Green, Red grabs Yellow The combination that made this theme powerful, was the fact you almost always had hand presence. Followed by the concept of running 3 Fissure's, 3 Smashing Ground, and 3 Lightning Vortex, You would never lose monster's, and always maintain a field presence, even more so. When Hydrogeddon was added in with Shrink. Giving off a stronger field presence that rivaled the Monarch decks of the age. With Smashing Ground at three yet again. Those deck's are expected to return, more than likely not in mass amounts,. Where all these deck's are good, thru past experiences', I believe its time for a new deck to shine, a theme that has been getting a remake as of late. That's right folks, I am saying where Fusion's, and Sychro's are good It's time for Ritual's to shine. Most of all Demise, King of Armageddon. This card can only be Ritual Summoned with the Ritual Spell Card, "End of the World". You can pay 2000 Life Points to destroy all cards on the field, except this card. It was only recently that this deck theme started making a huge impact, and cause of it they had to restrict Demise, and also Advanced Ritual Art's down to 1 each. Advanced Ritual Art Select 1 Ritual Monster in your hand. Send Normal Monsters from your Deck to the Graveyard whose total Levels are equal to that Ritual Monster's. Ritual Summon a card with the name of the selected Ritual Monster from your hand. The old combo's used to use the deck theme with Insects to swarm, and basically sting there opponent to death. But with Advanced Ritual art still limited to one, its time we examine this and think outside the box. With the coming of Stardust Overdrive, new Djinn Monsters have made the way for the return of Rituals. My favorite of them all is. Djinn Releaser of Rituals *** When you Ritual Summon a Ritual Monster, you can remove from play this card from your Graveyard as 1 of the monsters required for the Ritual Summon. While the monster Ritual Summoned using this card is face-up on the field, your opponent cannot Special Summon. So you basically can add more effect's onto effect monster's to give them more strength's and less weakness's, and even better is the fact you can use these from your hand or your grave! So using hand destruction and getting rid of them early game is no problem at all. Giving a source of draw power that has its own benefits now, for the deck theme. By breaking out Demise, King of Armageddon, with no special summoning for your opponent you can stop quite a lot of things,. Just off hand you can stop Sychro monster's, Fusion monster's, and your opponents ritual summoned Monsters, but if this is a Tournament scene, you would also be stopping,. Judgment Dragon, There Demise, King of Armageddon, and also Treeborn frog for there Monarchs decks. With all the new support for Ritual themed decks, It is clear for many decks why in this format they are a force to be reasoned with, the Destruction power of a Judgment Dragon, and the negating power of a Royal Oppression minus the life cost. Mind you we can't just say that Demise, would be the best deck theme for the banlist. Cause there are countless creative players out there, Tier Tournament players, and rookies alike. Being a game of Luck / Faith, anything is possible. There are new decks out there that rival and may even go beyond what there currently is. X-Sabers, Kao'ki Meiru, Blackwings, & many more. So for all those player's that have just been inspired, keep on being inspired, and keep on coming up with amazing decks, I can't take credit for the past decks. Although I don't mind taking Credit for the demise Idea. Gadgets, Lightsworns, and Monarchs are all past Triumphant decks that have rarely failed in the Tournament scene, But always remember wise duelists, Its not always the card's that make the decks, but the duelists creativity the brings amazing deck's to life. So for now everyone. Keep it Real -Daniel- ~TheWhiteRose~ |
